Modesty in Clothes (Clothes #2)

This is a continuation of last week's post on clothes. Last week we covered why it doesn't matter what we wear, and this week we're talking about why it does matter what we wear. I know, it probably sounds like I'm contradicting myself, but I'm not. If you didn't read the title of the post, it's about modesty in clothes. Mostly, it's for girls, but if a boy wants to read it, of course they can! Anyway, here's the actual post.

In the eighteen hundreds and before, the clothes most people wore we more modest then what a lot of people are wearing now. Think about it: The skirts were a lot longer then they are now, even when a girl wasn't yet wearing the long skirts of a woman. When they were swimming, they didn't wear bikinis; they wore clothes. The pants were not labeled things like 'Low Rise' and 'Ultra Low'; they were just pants. The shirts girls wore weren't low-cut and revealing. The jeans weren't super-tight, they were loose fitting. And as far as I know, there was no such thing as a miniskirt.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Over the last few centuries, things have changed a lot. I know it's been a few hundred years, but if you really think about it, in all the time that the world has been here, it's not that long. I know that there are exceptions to what I said in the last paragraph, but my point is that most people were a lot more modest then, then they are now. Maybe you're thinking, 'Why is modesty such a big deal?'. Well, I'm about to tell you.

Part of modesty is about keeping one's self protected. Do you really want people staring at you like that? Another part of modesty is about true beauty. Because the clothes you are wearing are showy, it takes away attention from your face. Even more importantly, it takes it away from your inner beauty.

Now, I read a lot, and from what I have read, I have collected that a lot of guys like pretty girls. And girls want to be pretty, it's just the way we've grown up, it's what our culture is like. But maybe it's just the way we were made; vain. I don't know. But I do know that I don't like to see other girls wearing immodest clothes. It's not pretty; in fact, it can kind of be repulsive. I don't like to see it.

Earlier when Savannah and I were talking, she was saying that she doesn't think she's very modest. I think she is fine. Okay, maybe one or two of her skirts are too short for my taste, but really, she is a lot better at that kind of thing then most girls. When we were talking about this, she said that her mom doesn't like her wearing spaghetti strap shirts. I'm fine with them. In fact, I wear them all the time. But when it comes to skirts, I can't stand having anything shorter then just above my knee, unless there is a pair of shorts, leggings or pants underneath. You're probably wondering what I'm getting at with this. Well, my point is this: Everyone defines modesty differently, just as everyone has their own style.

The problem for most people, though, is that they ignore what they think is modest or immodest. I've been pondering modesty for a few weeks, when I came across it on another blog. Before, I hadn't really thought about it. In our culture, we're used to people wearing stuff like that. We don't really think about it. But when it does pop up in our mind, sometimes we try and make excuses, like 'It's not that bad, I've seen a lot worse', or 'Everyone else dresses like this'. Just because other people dress like that, it doesn't mean we should. In the Bible, it says this:

I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. -1Timothy 2:9-10

Concentrate on the part that says 'I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety.' And what the Bible says, goes. For everyone, no matter who they are, what age they are, whatever.

Well, I think that's all I have to say about this right now. Please tell me what you think of this post by leaving a comment. Thanks!

Work is a part of life

Work
Let me but do my work from day to day, In field or forest, at the desk or loom,In roaring market-place or tranquil room; Let me but find it in my heart to say, When vagrant wishes beckon me astray, "This is my work; my blessing, not my doom;" Of all who live, I am the one by whom"This work can best be done in the right way."Then shall I see it not too great, nor small, To suit my spirit and to prove my powers; Then shall I cheerful greet the labouring hours ,And cheerful turn, when the long shadows fall, At eventide, to play and love and rest, Because I know for me my work is best. -Henry Van Dyke

"Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:"-Proverbs 6:6

Work is a part of life, those that think they can avoid it will fail. Americans hire migrant workers to do the more physical jobs that we are"above doing", such as cleaning the bathrooms, picking fruit and meat processing because no American wants to do it for low pay. We ship out thing to China, like toys, to be made for the same reason. The only "desirable" jobs are ones in offices that make $80,00 a year. I just recently found this out. I have always been lazy, I especially hated cleaning, I remember throwing a few fits when I was younger over cleaning. I learned to tolerate it, and them it hit me sometime this year, I like cleaning. I don't really know how I came to like cleaning, but I love to take a dirty room and make it shine. I am happier now that I realize this. Work is just part of life. No matter who you are, you are not too good for work. This is a problem with society, if nobody will be willing to to some physical labor, how are we to survive? Work does not have to be your favorite thing, I don't think that anyone would rather work than play if they had a choice. The Bible says that there is a time for work and a time for play, but society thinks that we need to have fun all the time. I suggest that you read this http://www.therebelution.com/blog/2005/11/kidults-part-3-ruining-our-lives-with-fun-2/.
My family was very busy last fall with our homeschool activities. Our only full-days home were Monday and Friday! After things slowed down, I forget what I was supposed to do at home, I was so bored! I had been having so much fun out I forgot how to be happy at home. I relearned how do spend down-time, but it was eye opening. Too much fun can make you unhappy.
Points of this:
1.BE happy in your work

2. God doesn't like laziness

3.America is not above work

4. Even if you hate work, you can learn to like it.

5. Work is a part of life, get used to it.

6. Don't ruin your life with fun, be happy at home.

Living on a hobby farm has been an eye-opener to me. I have became much more tough from it, I am not afraid to get dirt anymore. I have cleaned up a calf with scours, taken care of many animal wounds, raised mentally retarded kittens and grown accustom to gruesome things that would make most people throw up. Country life did not come easy for me, but I think it has been one of the best experiences of my life. When I am outside on a nice day, I think how much God has blessed me, even thought I didn't know it.

Believing in God (Believing #1)

Please note: As you read this post, please remember that these are my thoughts and opinions on this topic. Yours may be very different then mine, and that's okay. Please don't get angry if you think something I am saying is blasphemy or just plain wrong. Instead, please express these thoughts/opinions in the comments; I would love to hear someone (and anyone!) else's opinion on this topic. Thank you!

Hello, everyone! Today's topic is believing, as you will have read in the title. What I mean by this, is believing in God (and Jesus). This probably should have been the first topic, but too late now. I might not have even thought of this post, but I was talking to someone recently, who was really doubting whether God was real. Anyway, here it is!

Nowadays, a lot of people don't believe in Him anymore. I don't know why, and I can't understand it. This includes my dad. When I first found out about him turning atheist, he said that he had looked at the facts, and had decided. But I am not so sure he looked at
all the facts. I don't know if he looked in the Bible or not (I'll have to ask him later), but if he did, he may not have looked in the right area(s). The Bible is so huge (mine is somewhere around 1600 pages) and it can be hard to find the things you're looking for. But if you look in Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John, it's not that hard to find proof of miracles. A few examples are...

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. -John 11:43-44

Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. -Luke 7:14-15

"I tell you, get up, take your mat, and go home." He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. -Mark 2:11-12 (Part of Mark 2: 1-12; the story where Jesus heals a paralytic)

If you are doubting God's existence, and you would like some more examples of God's miracles, please read the following: Matthew 14:1-32; Exodus 14:21-27; Joshua 10:12-13; and Jonah 1. There are oh so many more, but I can't list them all. I would be listing a lot of the bible.

Are you doubting the existence of God? If you are, there is a very simple solution. Find yourself a New Testament Bible, and start reading. It may not sound like much fun, but it is worth it. You may find yourself starting believe that He is real. If you do, start praying. It may seem a little weird at first, talking to someone invisible. Of course, you don't even have to say the words, because God knows your every thought. And doesn't everyone talk to themselves at times? But a theory of mine is that you aren't really talking to yourself at all, even if you don't believe in the Lord, sometimes you're talking to Him, and you just don't realize it. That even if you choose to ignore Him, he will still be there, and you acknowledge him subconsciously.

Okay, if you still aren't convinced that He's real, let me ask you this. Do you believe in the Devil? Do you believe in Heaven and Hell? If you do believe in Heaven, here's something for you to ponder; If there is no God, then how is there a Heaven? If there is no God, then how did all those miracles happen? If there is no God, then how did Jesus raise from the dead, and open up the gates of Heaven? In fact, if there is no Father, how is there a Son (Jesus) at all? In my opinion, if there is no Lord, there is no Devil, and there is no Heaven or Hell. But there is God, and there is the Devil, and there is a Heaven and a Hell.

Please, consider these things I have said. And if you already believe in the Lord and read this article, you can consider these also, and maybe use some of it to tell others about the Lord God. I don't know, but I hope you will find it inspiring.

Common mistakes teen girls make

The stereotypical teenager is usually thought of as being a fashion and social minded, boy-crazy, materialistic, full of attitude young person that is in a world that revolves around him or herself. Social status is everything to teens; they spend hours a day trying to make themselves more attractive, so 'Ryan' will ask them. Are they really happy?
I think the problem with stereotypical teenage life is thinking too much about yourself, dating and outward appearances. The secret to happiness is: "So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way." Colossians 3:12-16
The Bible says that our bodies are His temples and to treat them as such. God wants us to look nice and be clean. "But if he does not wash his clothes and bathe himself, he will be held responsible." Levitcus 17:16 See. I'm not asking you to not care about how you look or to not treat yourself to something special. But He doesn't want us to be vain. Vain means: excessively proud of or concerned about one's own appearance, qualities, achievements, etc.; conceited or without real significance, value, or importance; baseless or worthless. As for thinking of others first, here is what the Bible says: "'Honor your father and mother' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Matt. 19:19 "Honor one another above yourselves." Romans 12:10b. "But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matthew 5:44.Honoring your father and mother is something that is not expected nowadays. Parent have became more of a friend than a mentor in some cases. Discipline is considered abuse in today's world and it is showing in the behavior of children. Parent indulge their children far too much now and the result is rowdy children, uncontrollable teens and kidults. http://www.therebelution.com/blog/2005/09/kidults-part-1-adolescence-is-permanent/).Romans 10:12 and Matthew 5:44 boiled down means to treat everyone with kindness and put others above yourself. As for dating, I don't have much to say. Keep in mind that the purpose of dating/courtship is to find someone you want to spend the rest of your life with. If you wouldn't want to marry someone, don't date/court/whatever you call it them. I don't think that datingtoo young is a good thing. How young is too young? Discuss this with your parents. I know that this is a controversial article. I did not write this to offend anyone. I also know that there are lots of exceptions to this article too. I hope to live the rest of my teenage life in a Godly manner. ~Miss Savannah~P.S. Comments are welcome!

Weekly Bible Chapter

I have decided to do a weekly Bible chapter. For this week I have chosen Psalms 23. You have surly heard it before, it is probably one of the most famous chapters from the Bible. I think that is describes all the rewards of being a Christian. My favorite version is the KJV because it sounds so nice. Having a pet lamb also makes this chapter easier for me to understand. Sheep are very, shall I say stupid animals, the don't know what is best for them. They love their shepherd and probably couldn't live without him/her.
I have made a really funny picture version of this chapter here.
Psalm 23 (King James Version)

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Psalm 23 (The Message)
The Message (MSG)

Psalm 23
A David Psalm 1-3 God, my shepherd! I don't need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. 4 Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I'm not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd's crook makes me feel secure. 5 You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. 6 Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I'm back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.

Back in the times the Bible was written, what people expected of women was very different. Women wore dresses, headcloths, and such. In the bible, it even tells women to do this. But since today's times are so different, should we still obey these, or should we keep up with the times? I have been debating this against myself, and think that it truly does not matter whether we dress like we did then, or now. Because in the beginning, Adam and Eve wore no clothes. This is from the Bible.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
-Genisis 3:6-7

It (the Bible) also says,

The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. -Genisis 3:21

So does that mean we should wear the same type of clothes Adam and Eve did? How do we even know if Eve wore dresses? Maybe the clothes God made her were the same as Adam's. We can't know.
I believe that it is okay to wear jeans and t-shirts, shorts, tank tops; normal clothes of the day. God would want us to be ourselves, and loves us for ourselves. So it doesn't matter whether we wear what they did when the Bible was written, or what most people (in the US; I don't know much about what people wear in other countries) wear now. As for headcloths, they way I understand it is that the hair is the covering. Some people may and do interpret it differently, though, and that is fine, these are just my opinions.

I'll be posting a second article on clothes next week sometime. Well, I think that's all for now.

Hello from Jessica

Hi, I'm Jessica, also known as Tae Kwon Do Chick. I'm a homeschooled eighth grader, with two younger siblings. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite singer is Laura Story. My favorite things to do are Tae Kwon Do, reading, writing (fiction), tumbling, soccer, and hanging out with my friends.
I've (technically) been a Christian for my whole life, (I was baptized as a baby) but I only recently realized what it means to serve the Lord. I don't go to church, but does that mean I don't love the Lord with all my heart? No. It is simply because my dad is an atheist, and my mom doesn't agree with everything that the church says. My favorite bible verse is Psalms 27:3- 'Though an army besiege me, me heart shall not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.' I also love John 3:16, which all you Christians probably know.
I have another blog, which is just for random, everyday stuff. If you want to read it, go here. Thanks, and I hope you like our blog!
